#Africa Corps

A coordinated offensive by Islamist and Tuareg rebel groups in late April 2026 retook the northern Mali city of Kidal from the country's military junta and its Russian Africa Corps allies, dealing the most significant strategic blow to Bamako in three years and forcing the government to concede peripheral territory. JNIM fighters have since blockaded the capital, raising fears of regime instability across the Sahel.
