Editorial Standards

How GeoTalks reports the news

Last updated: May 2026

GeoTalks is committed to accurate, fair, and independent journalism. Every story we publish is held to a consistent set of editorial standards — regardless of topic, region, or the political sensitivities involved.

1. Our Commitment

GeoTalks is committed to accurate, fair, and independent journalism. Every story we publish is held to a consistent set of editorial standards — regardless of topic, region, or the political sensitivities involved.

2. Accuracy

Accuracy is the foundation of everything we publish.

Before a story is published, we verify facts against primary sources: official statements, government data, established news agencies, academic research, and direct reporting.

We distinguish clearly between confirmed facts and unverified claims. When information is unconfirmed, we say so explicitly in the article.

We do not publish speculation as fact.

3. Sources

GeoTalks uses multiple source types to ensure accuracy:

  • Primary sources: official statements, government documents, court records, data releases
  • Wire services: Reuters, AP, AFP for breaking news
  • Institutional sources: UN agencies, World Bank, IMF, regional bodies
  • Expert commentary: academics, analysts, former officials

We attribute quotes to named sources wherever possible. When sources request anonymity, we assess the public interest before agreeing.

4. Independence

GeoTalks has no political affiliation and does not endorse political parties or candidates.

Advertising does not influence our editorial decisions. Advertisers are not shown articles before publication. Ad placements are clearly labelled “Advertisement.”

Our journalists are not permitted to accept gifts, payments, or other benefits from sources or organisations they cover.

5. Fairness & Balance

On contested political and policy issues, we present multiple perspectives. We do not editorially advocate for one side of a genuine policy debate.

We apply consistent standards across all groups, countries, and ideologies. A standard we apply to one political party, we apply equally to all.

6. Corrections

We take corrections seriously.

When a factual error is identified — by readers, sources, or our own team — we correct it promptly, typically within 24 hours.

Corrections are noted in the article with the correction date and a brief description of what was changed. We do not silently alter published articles.

To report an error: editorial@geotalks.in or use our corrections form.

7. Privacy in Reporting

We do not identify private individuals without a clear public interest justification.

We follow responsible reporting guidelines for coverage of crime, mental health, suicide, and other sensitive topics.

We protect the identities of sources who face genuine risk from being named.

8. Sensitive Topics

When covering conflict, religion, ethnicity, health, or other sensitive areas, we apply additional care:

  • Language that dehumanises groups is not used.
  • Casualty figures and atrocity claims are sourced from credible international bodies (UN, ICRC, established NGOs).
  • Mental health topics include relevant support resources where appropriate.
  • Content involving minors is handled with heightened sensitivity.

9. Complaints

Readers who believe our coverage has been unfair, inaccurate, or in breach of these standards are encouraged to contact us.

  • Email: editorial@geotalks.in
  • We aim to respond to all editorial complaints within 48 hours.
  • Complaints that cannot be resolved through direct contact may be escalated to the Press Council of India.

This policy may be updated periodically. The “Last updated” date above reflects the most recent revision.
